Ralph
Fiennes is three things:
1.
Very good-looking
2. A fantastic actor
3. An intelligent BRITISH man!
Plus,
I've seen him in theatre in London in a play called Brand by
Ibsen, in which he was incredibly haunting and upsetting. Very good
performance. I've seen two of his films, The English Patient
which is one of my favourite films in the world, and Oscar and Lucinda,
which is very strange but evocative and slightly disturbing. In both
films Fiennes showed himself as a wonderful actor, and was incredibly
convincing. The English Patient made me cry like no film has
before, although I think I was in a weepy mood that day anyway!
Anyway,
onto the photos.

Ralph
in The Avengers. Actually, I've seen the beginnning of
this film - we videoed it - but it was so ... so corny, so fake,
so artificial, so ridiculous, that I couldn't sit through it. Even
with the added bias of Ralph Fiennes. It's a shame I never saw him
properly fencing. But I do rather like the suit. |

With
Julianne Moore in The End of the Affair. I LOVE his overcoat
... playing a real, lovely English gentleman. I hope it's an Englishman,
anyway - I haven't seen this particular film. |
 |
In
The End of the Affair again. This is a cropped picture,
for the sake of disk space. In fact, he's having dinner with Julianne
Moore, and they're holding hands ... but we can't have that, can
we? |
 |
In
the same film. He seems to spend an awful lot of time looking to
the left, doesn't he? |
 |
In
The English Patient. Dancing with Kristin Scott Thomas.
She's a very good actress too - a lot of people think that she's
awfully wooden, but I reckon they're mostly Americans who don't
understand the subtleties of British acting. In this film she behaves
the way a reserved, private English lady would, and is extremely
convincing, in my opinion. But of course no leading actress is complete
without her leading actor, and so we come to Ralph again. He is
really very good, and very very gorgeous! |
 |
This
is him again in The English Patient. Just look at his rugged
aggressiveness. I think that's part of it: he's proud, he's hardy,
he's sometimes rather cruel ... but under it all he's completely
in love with her, and he'll do anything for her. I'd love to know
someone like that. It's a sort of Mr Darcy type figure really, I
suppose. |

This
is Ralph in a publicity portrait for his recent film, Spider.
Below it is another portrait taken of him with his co-star, Gabriel
Byrne, whom I also quite like (especially when he's in The Man
in the Iron Mask!). Anyway, just look at Ralph's shirt, and
his big, diffident, hopeful eyes. Byrne is more experienced looking,
more challenging. Both are rather good, although ... I don't know
- perhaps I prefer Byrne in this photo. |
 |
Frankly,
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Ralph in Maid in Manhattan, with JENNIFER
LOPEZ!! God, why, Ralph, why? How could an experienced, distinguished
actor reduce himself to the level of a cheesy, American romantic
comedy with Jennifer Lopez? I don't know if we'll ever have a proper
answer to that question. |
 |
Finally,
Ralph in a film called Quiz Show. I haven't seen it. It
looks a bit odd, but just think about his thoughtful stare! |
